Exploring the Journey of Creations By Julie Brayton
Hallow,
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
The big news here is I changed the name of my product design company to Painted Tides Design.
My focus of attention is mostly my coastal art on various products however, I learned the need to expand especially as I have learned how Etsy works and for now that is my main sales platform.
As my sales grow and my products become more refined, I will no doubt move a lot to my website but I’m not sure yet, it’s early.
Some of the art expansion is with pattern making. I have devoted a lot of my past 50 years into painting but I have dabbled in a lot of other artistic ventures. Some include clothing design, sewing, digital art and various crafting using scallop shells.
It felt a little like I was going backwards when I learned pattern or surface design would be something I will have to hone my skills on. I’ve narrowed down in order to do great at the one thing but there is something to be said for, “Multiple Streams Of Income”.
I have made progress without a doubt. I will say it’s been hard but I’m determined!
The product design I made that has been the most popular so far is a hydrangea, botanical design with stripes. (See Below)
I use a variety of resources to bring a design together. One is I will use AI to give me base imagery. So for example I have a crab pillow design, shown above, that I had AI make the crabs in watercolor for me. AI doesn’t always give me exactly what I ask for so I always have work to do. In that case, I took the crabs I liked, brought them into Photoshop, altered the color, and isolated out the crabs I liked and put them back together to make the design. With the Botanical Hydrangea design, I use a licensing company where I buy already made artwork. Usually watercolor styled objects or patterns. From there I again isolate out the parts I like and sometimes alter the color and then put them together.

My Why
In everything I do nature is incorporated. My goal or mission is to bring reminders and connection to the importance each individual has through the connection to nature. How we all can honor the essence of who we have always been meant to be. Creativity, whether through collecting art or creating it, is a healing force that allows us to embrace, tell and own our stories in a transformative and ultimately joyful way.
